Welcome to Le Barn Appétit, created in 1987 by Yvon and Janet van Driessche, your hosts, and their children. Yvon, our chef, originally from Belgium, moved to Alaska in 1966. He teaches high school French. Yvon is an underwater diving specialist with many Alaskan and worldwide adventures to share (be sure to ask!!). Janet, a special education school teacher, originally from New Mexico, has been an Alaskan resident since 1972. She taught in Dillingham in the bush country and now in Seward. She has also been a swim coach since 1977. Jacqueline, our youngest was born in Seward, Alaska in 1987. She was a two time state swimming champion for Seward High and is now on the swim team at UAF. Yvon, Janet, Andre, Jared and Jacqueline worked for years with troubled teens, guiding them to productive lives!
A complimentary gourmet breakfast is provided at no charge for the guests of our Inn. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are also available to the public. We are open daily from 7AM to 7PM. Come and witness us making your gourmet waffles and Belgian crêpes before your eyes on our custom crêperie created in the summer of 2004!
Most of all come and share lives and stories! What makes this place so unique are all of the special people who have come and shared the odysseys of their lives and journeys with us. We treasure each encounter as it becomes a part of the place we call Le Barn Appetit! Some come and go, some stay and become a part of our extended family. Joanne, a Katrina refugee, has become the "Host-at-Large" of Le Barn Appétit. Her specialty is that she "Will Work for Food"!!
